What is success? How do we define it today? Wealth? Power? Influence? Money? Having ‘the good life’? If this is the definition, the prophet Jeremiah was quite unsuccessful. God gave him a message and it seemed like no one listened, he was poor, and by all accounts treated quite poorly but in the eyes of God he was successful, he declared God’s message with faith and conviction despite personal cost. May we learn from Jeremiah on how to be successful.
We conclude our (Un)Successful series this week. The book of Jeremiah has a lot of negative words and does not paint a very nice picture of the future. Is there hope? Is there a silver lining? Does Jeremiah finish his ministry with a hope of a better tomorrow? What about us today? Do we have a hope of something better? Hope for today? Tomorrow? Where do we place our hope while living in the hurting broken world?
Sharon Staub continues our (Un)successful series by sharing from chapter 34. We learn about the warning from Jeremiah to Zedekiah of the coming invasion of Nebuchadnezzar and what the significance is of the town of Lachish mentioned in verse 7.
We explore the well known and well loved verse from chapter 29, “Behold the plan I have for you…” What does this verse really mean? What is the context? Who was it originally for? By digging deeper you may come to love and be blessed even more by these words of the prophet Jeremiah.
The first message God gave Jeremiah was not for the people but it was for him, it was his calling. A call to take the words of God to ‘the nations’. Like Jeremiah you and I have been called to take the words and message of Jesus to our world. We weren’t called to be successful but to GO!
