While in prison, the apostle Paul writes to the church in Philippi. While they are experiencing persecution, he wants to teach them and encourage them that their lives as a Christ follower means seeing their own story as a living expression of Jesus' story. Paul calls the people to imitate Jesus’ way of life, so that even in their suffering, they can find contentment and purpose through his example.
This Is Living series concludes in the final chapter of Philippians where Paul believes that he has found the secret of living in every situation, in good times and hard times, with much or with little. It is Christ who gives him strength.
In Chapter 3 of Philippians, Paul gives a powerful reminder that we have not yet arrived at our destination but encourages us to forget what is behind us and to press on with purpose to the prize which Christ has called us
Paul calls for unity among believers based on their shared faith in Christ, to be in one mind, one heart and one purpose. This is done through thinking of others above self and looking to Jesus as the ultimate example of humility.
The opening words of the book of Philippians express a deep connection between Paul and the Philippians Church and he wants to encourage them as partners in spreading the Good News. Paul is certain that the work that God began in them will continue until He returns.
